Iron ochre is a reddish, muddy deposit caused by naturally occurring bacterial activity in the iron found in the soil and groundwater. When these bacteria are highly concentrated, they create a reddish gel.
Vermiculite is mainly used for insulating attics, and sometimes in wall insulation as well. "The potential risk to health associated with the vermiculite that was sold under the brand name Zonolite Attic Insulation and possibly other brands in Canada, has raised concerns recently. This is the ore in question; taken from the Libby Mine in Montana (before it closed in the 1990s) could contain small amounts of asbestos.
Asbestos is a fibrous rock used in the manufacturing of several composites, including insulation. Asbestos has been used in construction for its insulating properties. It can be found in the water heaters, insulation, fireplaces, steam and hot water pipes, tiles, vermiculite, and air heating conducts.
